Norma Totah celebrates a fulfilling career in clinical social work, psychotherapy, family therapy and teaching
PLANTSVILLE, CT, September 13, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Norma L. Totah has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in social work.
With a strong passion for helping others, Ms. Totah has assisted countless individuals while utilizing her expertise in clinical social work. Now retired, she celebrates a fulfilling career that spanned nearly four decades. She began her career in generic family practice followed by family therapy and private practice.
Nora relocated from New York to Connecticut where she worked for the Connecticut State Department of Children and Families from 1976 to 1995. She was tasked with counseling children and their families, treating sexually abused children and performing a variety of interventions. She also taught child welfare and counseling courses at St. Joseph's College for 20 years, and supervised and trained clinical staff in a variety of agency settings.
In 1955, Ms. Totah graduated magna cum laude from Howard University with a bachelor's degree in sociology and political science. She went on to earn a Master of Social Work from Columbia University and become a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Connecticut. She serves on the board of directors for the Connecticut Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenders and supports The Salvation Army, Southern Poverty Law Center, cancer programs, Bread For Life International, and FOOD Share Inc. Ms. Totah is a proud and devoted mother of two wonderful daughters and has three beautiful granddaughters, ages 5, 16 and 22.
