Lyris R. Crowdy Peak is honored for professional dedication to education and family support services

OMAHA, NE, August 31, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lyris R. Crowdy Peak, Governance & Parent Facilitator of Douglas County Head Start Program at the Omaha Public School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in early childhood education and family support services.

With more than 36 years of professional expertise, Lyris R. Crowdy Peak is a recognized professional in early childhood education and family support services with Head Start programs. She currently thrives as the Governance and Parent Facilitator at Omaha Public Schools Head Start; she is responsible for providing guidance and support to family support staff that work directly with families regarding their children's and family needs. Mrs. Peak is also responsible for working with staff to encourage parent and fatherhood/male involvement in Head Start, training parents to become empowered decision-makers and coordinating family activities. In addition, Mrs. Peak is the Head Start liaison with the Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program.

Mrs. Peak holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Psychology and a Master of Science Degree in Human Services, Mental Health /Substance Abuse and is currently working on an internship, with plans to obtain a provisional license in Mental Health therapy and Substance Abuse counseling. She is also a certified Social Worker in the State of Nebraska. Mrs. Peak is a professional affiliate of the National Association of Social Workers and the Urban league of Nebraska.

Mrs. Peak served as the Executive Director of the statewide family support program, Family Resource Center Coalition of Nebraska, for four years. During her tenure this program provided funding for 20 family support programs in Nebraska, from PIRC (Parent Information & Resource Centers) federal funding. Mrs. Peak also served as a Federal Reviewer of Head Start programs for over 15 years.

Mrs. Peak is currently on the Board of Directors for Parent Information & Training Center of Nebraska (PTI - NE).
