QUEENS VILLAGE, NY, August 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Judiann Keane McSweeney, M.S.Ed., Special Education Teacher for Lifeline Center For Child Development, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in special education.

Motivated by a desire to help troubled children, Judiann Keane McSweeney began her career in special education in 2005. She lends her talents to Lifeline Center for Child Development, a non-profit psychiatric day treatment center that provides education for emotionally disturbed children. As a special education teacher, she works with seriously disturbed children and children who exhibit disabilities such as fearfulness, anxiety, hyperactivity, depression, impulsivity, expressive and receptive language delays, withdrawal, and autistic and psychotic behavior. Focused on helping each child achieve his/her maximum potential, she creates individualized education plans and ensures that these comply with New York State educational standards.

As a hard-working widow and single mother of three boys for 14 years, Ms. McSweeney knew full well the importance of supporting a child emotionally and academically. She did not embark on her career until the age of 44, forced to put her college education on the back burner and take babysitting jobs to make ends meet. She is proud to have finally completed her undergraduate degree when her eldest son graduated from high school and received her graduate degree when he finished college. Ms. McSweeney attributes her success to the determination that she acquired from being a single parent and to her willingness to do whatever it takes to reach her students. She remarried in 2006.

Ms. McSweeney holds a master's degree in special education from CUNY Queens College, earned in 2008 and a bachelor's degree in psychology from SUNY Empire State College, earned in 2004. She was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows Program in 2005. Her professional affiliations include the National Association for Special Education Teachers, the Council for the Education of Exceptional Children, Kappa Delta Phi, ASCD, and the New York State Association for Women in Administration.

Ms. McSweeney is currently pursuing her certification as a School District Leader and plans on continuing her work as a child advocate. Her goal is to attain an administrative role focused solely on special education.

Lifeline Center for Child Development, Inc. accepts students from kindergarten to the 12th grade. It has been serving seriously disturbed children and their families since 1959.
