Cambridge Who's Who Names Dr. John Maurice Williams Professional of the Year
Dr. John Williams thrives in educational consulting and freelance writing
ROSEVILLE, CA August 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. John Maurice Williams (formerly John Hodge-Williams), Vice-President of Operations for Wingspread TLC, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Educational Consulting. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
An editorial in a Washington, D,C, newspaper about a critical shortage of teachers in the area led Dr. Williams to investigate a career in education. His experiences working with at risk youngsters in his first assignment convinced him he had found his calling. Over the last 43 years, he has fulfilled this calling with unwavering commitment.
Dr. Williams earned his dual Doctorate of Education in psychology and special education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. As a graduate student he was named to a project directorship for educational and leadership training in special education for seven school districts. Upon graduation, he served as statewide director of un-served and underserved students in Massachusetts. He was next the mental health director of a large community mental health center in Philadelphia.
In 1981, Dr. Williams became the executive director of the Woodbourne Center, a residential treatment center in Baltimore. He dramatically expanded the reach and impact of the organization as the CEO for twenty years. Woodbourne became a national model for childcare organizations throughout the U.S. and Europe. During this time, he was the principal author of Quality Centered/Team Focused Management, Child Welfare League of America, 1998. This book was the seminal work for the total quality management in child residential centers throughout the country. In addition to numerous honors and awards, in 1997, he also represented the U.S. at the International Forum for Child Welfare in Portugal.
Currently, he is in private practice as an educational consultant as VP of Operations for Wingspread TLC where he provides research, planning and communication services to foster overall quality improvement in education.
Drawing on his well-honed writing skills, Dr. Williams has embarked upon a new venture providing writing services to businesses and institutions, and biographies to individuals. He is an avid writer. A book and some fictional short stories are in his future.
For diversion, Dr. Williams is an active member of several organizations including the UC Davis Cancer Center's Writing for Healing group, the Roseville Sun City Singers where he is Vice President and sings tenor, the Back Bay Banjo Band, and the American Writers and Artists Institute. He is also becoming involved in a peer counseling service for seniors.
