Dr. Samuel C. Klagsbrun Recognized for Contributions and Leadership at Four Winds Hospital
Samuel C. Klagsbrun, MD, transformed a 17-patient "nursing home" into a fully-functioning mental healthcare facility

KATONAH, NY, July 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Samuel C. Klagsbrun, MD, Physician and Executive Medical Director at Four Winds Hospital, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in healthcare administration.

When Dr. Samuel C. Klagsbrun took over Four Winds Hospital 33 years ago, it had only 17 patients, all in their 80s. "It was like a nursing home," he shared during a recent interview. "It was run poorly. When the opportunity arose, I bought the facility and developed new programs. Now, [Four Winds] is a 175-bed facility specializing in child and adolescent services." Accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health, Four Winds provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment services for children, adolescents and adults on 55 wooded acres in the county of Westchester. It is staffed by a multidisciplinary professional team that includes psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, registered nurse practitioners, registered nurses, clinical social workers, masters-level teachers, and creative/expressive art therapists and mental health workers.

Dr. Klagsbrun specializes in the treatment of psychological disorders and disturbances and lends nearly five decades' expertise to his post at Four Winds Hospital. There, he supervises administrators, treats patients and deals with difficult and special psychiatric cases. The key to his success as a practitioner, he shared, is "engaging patients on a personal level." Currently busy with directing another Four Winds in Saratoga Springs, he will seek to expand the portfolio of services offered at each facility in the upcoming years.

He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from CCNY, an MD from the Chicago Medical School and completed his residency at Yale University. In addition to his work at Four Winds, Dr. Klagsbrun provides consulting to the St. Christopher's Hospice in London, annually. He also lectures at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Klagsbrun is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and American Psychotherapy Association.
