Patricia S. Aker Honored by Cambridge Who's Who
Patricia S. Aker named Professional of the Year in Elementary Education

WYTHEVILLE, VA, May 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Patricia S. Aker, Instructor, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in elementary education.

Named Cambridge Publishing's 2010 Professional of the Year in Elementary Education, Patricia S. Aker has demonstrated over 36 years of steadfast dedication to teaching, specializing in reading instruction. Her educational background includes an Associate of Arts degree earned from Wytheville Community College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mary Washington College, a Master of Arts degree from Radford College, and a Master of Science degree from Virginia Polytechnic and State University. In addition Ms. Aker has training in computer literacy, reading recovering and is a certified reading specialist in the State of Virginia. Today, she works with kindergarten through third-grade students, teaching reading and Title One mathematics with an emphasis on the bottom percentile of low performers. At Jackson Memorial, Ms. Aker is distinguished for her hard work and dedication to helping others. She also serves as an Interventionist for Yes Education Shops.

In addition to her work as a teacher, she works in private enterprise alongside her husband as a co-owner of Coalfield Services, Inc. She also maintains active association with the Wythe-Bland Region Master Gardener Association, the Southeastern Reading Recovery Conference, the Southwest Virginia Reading Council, the Virginia Education Association and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Ms. Aker lends her philanthropic efforts to Wythe County Public Schools, National Public Radio, the Christian Broadcasting Network, United Way and the Animal Humane Society. She is also affiliated with the International Reading Association, Wythe County Education Association, National Education Association, National Council of Mathematics Teachers, United Way Worldwide and ChildFund.
