Barbara Martin, MA Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Gifted Education
Barbara Martin, MA, specializes in teaching accounting, debits and credits, and data analysis to academically talented students

PENSACOLA, FL, November 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara Martin, MA, Educator at The Program for Academically Talented Students at Brown Barge Middle School in Escambia County School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in gifted education.

Barbara Martin has 18 years of experience as an educator, with the last 13 of these years spent teaching the academically gifted. An expert mathematics teacher, she handles classes in the third through eighth grades, utilizing a unique program specifically designed for 530 of the county's most promising students from 41 different schools. Some of the courses she teaches include accounting, area geometry, Singapore mathematics and data analysis through a stock market game, helping her pupils follow stocks and determine when they should make a purchase. Ms. Martin believes that the needs of academically talented children are often overlooked because it is assumed that they have an advantage; she considers being able to work with them and see them enjoy learning to be the most rewarding aspects of her career. Recently, she was the recipient of an award from stocktrac.com because her students won first and third places in the district in an online stock market simulation game.

Ms. Martin teaches at The Program for Academically Talented Students in Escambia County, where she was nominated for 2005 Teacher of the Year. She also served as a sixth-grade science teacher at Westlawn Middle School in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Rigdon Road Elementary School in Columbus, Ga.

An alumna of Auburn University, Ms. Martin received her master of arts in elementary education in 1972. She also earned an endorsement in gifted education from the University of Alabama in 1995. She is a member of the Escambia County Association of Social Studies, the Florida Association for the Gifted, the National Association for Gifted Children, the National Council for the Gifted, the National Education Association, Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Omicron Pi, and Alpha Delta Kappa. Ms. Martin enjoys her work immensely, and looks forward to continuing in the same capacity.

Ms. Martin would like to thank her husband Joseph W. Martin, her daughters; Heather Martin, Amy Martin, Katie Martin, Sadie Treese and son-in-law Del and her granddaughters; Hermione and Isabella for all their love and support.
