Karen A. Scofield-Lawrence is a specialist in Gifted and Talented Education
LAS VEGAS, NV, October 01, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen Scofield-Lawrence, MS, BS, Gifted and Talented Education Specialist for the Clark County School District, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Curriculum & Instruction. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities.
With over three decades of experience, Karen A. Scofield-Lawrence is a recognized figure in education. She recently marked her fifth year at Tony Alamo Elementary School, where she educates in the subjects of social studies, science and language arts. With a particular focus on Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), she also prepares students for high-level testing and works with classroom teachers to equip students with critical thinking skills.
Ms. Scofield-Lawrence's tenure at Tony Alamo Elementary, a part of the Clark County School District, is the latest in an extensive list of positions that she has held over the last 30-plus years. She has devoted 14 years to GATE and, prior to joining Clark County, worked for the Nye County School District for six years in the same capacity. She also enjoyed earlier successes at New Orleans Public Schools and Biloxi Public School District. Ms. Scofield-Lawrence also taught in Manchester, England, coordinating an in-service art course at All Saints School and conducting seminars through Manchester Primary School.
Throughout her career, she has been recognized for professional excellence with honors including Disney's 1999-2000 Teacher of the Year Award and the President's Instructional Award for Local Instructional Excellence, granted by the Virginia Education Association in 1985. Most recently, Ms. Scofield-Lawrence received the What's Cool with School Award from Channel 8 News. This year, Ms. Scofield-Lawrence was also chosen to be featured in "Cambridge Publishing's 101 Top Industry Experts," a publication highlighting the lives and accomplishments of its top professionals.
Ms. Scofield-Lawrence holds a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the University at Albany and a bachelor of science in elementary education from SUNY College at Oneonta.
