Living and Learning in London
While the ancient universities of learning were in Greece and Rome, the new capital of education is undeniably London.

LONDON, ENGLAND, May 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Every year, millions of students from all over Europe enrol in universities across Britain to secure degrees in diverse disciplines. While reading English remains highly popular, there are also many takers for fields like Pharmacy, Engineering and International Relations.

"While Britain's universities have always attracted students from across the Atlantic and from all over the world, now there is a new trend. Many students are opting to come to England at least a couple of years before they begin University. We counsel a lot of prospective students and their parents who are keen to complete their A-levels or similar equivalences in Britain and thus, ease their way into universities here with a highly valued school certificate," reveals Sussex teacher Arianne Fletcher.

Many independent schools in London offering expensive private schooling in independent systems, like the International Baccalaureate, are also finding a lot of takers. "The benefit of an independent system like the International Baccalaureate is that the standards set internationally are the same. So even if you have studied in your early years in China and then moved to Germany for your secondary education, if you have been taught in the IB system, it becomes easier to acclimatise yourself with the academic atmosphere," explains student counsellor Ana Sanchez.

A recently released report suggested that many independent London schools have about 60 per cent of foreign students making up their total strength. Apart from the South Asian countries, there are also many parents from European countries like Germany and Spain who are opting to put their children through expensive but high quality schooling in London. "There are many reasons why British boarding schools are highly preferred. For one, the teacher-student ratio is excellent. There is also a lot of stress placed on a child's overall development and so these schools have excellent sports facilities, art rooms and even theatres. Also the sturdy reputation of 'good old English education' still has considerable value. But apart from these basic factors, there is also the aggressive marketing that these schools have now begun to attract students from across Europe and all over the world to join their International Baccalaureate and A-level programmes," says education blogger Andrea Mason.

This year, the Geneva-based International Baccalaureate has added more English schools to its approved list of IB World Schools. The International Community School has become one of International IB London schools that will offer the coveted IB Diploma from this September. Further, this International School Central London also offers residential facilities that make it an attractive choice for parents keen to educate their child in cosmopolitan London. Living and learning in London prepares the child not only academically, but also holistically for a successful future.
