Ollie Underwood Serves to Strengthen Alabama's Educational System
Underwood has taken an active role in the state's educational structure since the last 1960's.
Montgomery, AL, October 19, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ollie Underwood, State President & Vice President of the Alabama Education Association, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in educational administration.
Ollie Underwood has dedicated more than 41 years to improving the quality of education provided to children in the state of Alabama. After serving in the United States Armed Forces, he began teaching in the Alabama educational system and joined the Alabama Education Association, eventually serving a two-year term as its president. Currently, he is the organization's immediate past president, as well as the president of the Colbert County chapter of the Alabama Education Retirees Association, Inc., where he serves on governing boards and committees that make decisions regarding statewide instruction and policy changes. Moving toward retirement, he is looking to decrease his role in educational administration while remaining active and influential in the lives of children.
"Young kids look at athletes and want to become professionals, but that's a short-term goal," he claims, stressing the importance of a lasting and broad-based education. He believes that regardless of how long one lives, education affords one the opportunity to be productive and make a difference in the lives of others. Working in such a demanding role, he has been a mentor to not only educators, but students as well, helping them with the transition from childhood to adolescence and young adulthood. While he certainly advocates for academic excellence as paramount to other concerns, Mr. Underwood also emphasizes personal development and molding students into the best people they can, he explains"
