Katherine Joan George Recognized for Excellence in Special Education
Cambridge Who's Who honors Katherine Joan George for professional dedication within the Conroe Independent School District

CONROE, TX, June 9, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Katherine Joan George, Part-Time Teacher for Conroe Independent School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of special education.

Mrs. George has five years of professional experience in the field of education. Her expertise lies in conducting research and collecting quantitative and qualitative data. Now a part-time teacher at Conroe Independent School District, she is responsible for working with children with autism and other special needs. She is currently working on her dissertation, which deals with improving social-communicative skills and behavior in high-functioning children under the autism spectrum disorder. Her subject of expertise is particularly close to her heart; inspired by her personal experiences as the mother of a high-functioning autistic child, Mrs. George switched careers from law to education after completing her undergraduate degree. She attributes her success to the support of her husband, who motivates her to become a successful careerwoman and mother.

Currently a student at the University of Phoenix, Mrs. George is pursuing her Doctor of Education. She earned her Master of Arts in Education, with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction, in 2008 at the University of Phoenix. She holds an EC-12 Special Education Certification, a Generalist EC-4 Certification, and a Certification in EC-12 English as a Second Language. Her professional affiliations include the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Council for Exceptional Children, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Mrs. George recently competed in the Mrs. Texas Pageant where, as Mrs. Montgomery Texas, she promoted special education. She is actively involved in various community- and charity-based organizations, including her local Parent-Teacher Association, the Autism Society of America, Autism Speaks, and Autism Today. She participates in the Walk Now for Autism program of Autism Speaks. Her goals for the next five years include completing her doctorate and attaining a position as a director of special education. She also aspires to become a certified diagnostician in special education and a licensed psychologist for the school district to diagnose children with disabilities and advocate to get them the help that they and their families need.
