Playing It Safe This Halloween
Lillian Costume Company offers Halloween Safety Tips
Mineola, New York – September 23, 2004 – /24-7pressrelease.com/ -- Halloween is one of the most thrilling nights of the year for children; however, it is also one of the most dangerous. According to the Centers for Disease Control, children are four times more likely to suffer a pedestrian-related fatality or injury on this holiday than any other night of the year.
As trick-or-treaters hit the streets this Halloween, an adult’s primary concern should be the safety of their little ghosts and goblins. Whether reinforcing the rules of the road to trick-or-treaters or simply choosing the safest Halloween costumes, there are measures that parents and caregivers can take to ensure the well being of their lovable ghouls.
“Pedestrian safety is an issue that should be addressed year round,” said Tony Greco, owner, Lillian Costume Company. “On Halloween, both parents and children need to be extra cautious because the excitement of running from house to house for treats can be distracting for kids and cause them to forget about traffic safety.”
With this in mind, LillianCostume.com offers the following tips for having a spooktacular and safe Halloween.
Safety Tips . . . add one
· Choose a Halloween costume that has bright colors, and always attach retro-reflective tap, fabric, or patches to a child’s costume or trick-or-treat bag. This enables motorists to better spot children that are walking down the street.
· Make sure that child halloween costume fits correctly. A child costume should be comfortable and hemmed to a proper length in order to avoid a trip or fall that could cause serious injury.
· Avoid wearing a costume mask, if possible. Makeup is a safe alternative because it allows better vision. If a mask is necessary, make certain that it is snug enough so that it doesn’t fall down over the eyes and obstruct vision.
· If a child halloween costume requires props, be sure that they are flexible, have a dull edge, or made out of materials such as cardboard. These types of accessories will not cause injury during horseplay or if fallen on.
· Have children carry a flashlight when trick-or-treating after dark. This not only allows the child to see better but also lets the drivers spot them easily.
